In the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson, Tessie Hutchinson is
blamed for all the problems in her village. She is stoned to death!
Do you think that people often blame others?
Do you think this sort of lottery could take place in our community? E
Explain.
yes i do think that a lot of the time people do blame others. i find that one of the main reason why people blame others is because they don't want to be responsible for something that could go wrong or get them in trouble. i live in beaconsfield and its a pretty big community but Im pretty sure they would not be ok with stoning a person to death. in my opinion i would not like there to be a lottery like in the story but also it would be nice to blame everything on one person but i don't anyone getting hurt or killed.
ReplyDeleteAwesome blog and very interesting yet logical theory of why we tend to blame other
DeleteI like ur opinion about today blog theme. I really agreed that to blame someone else is what everyone want but stoning is probably not going to happen in any community.
DeleteVery reasonable blog Syd, good job! I agree with you though, almost everyone would feel terrible if they were to stone someone to death. It's just not how we act.
DeleteIn my opinion many if not all people still blame others for their on problems and/or problems. I find it strange that people tend to do this even when they clearly know and understand that it is their own fault.
ReplyDeleteToday in our community/society a "lottery" of this sorts would guaranteed not work or be excepted for many reason...
Good ideas, I agree with what you sed
DeleteVery good opinion on this subject.I agree with you all the way.
DeleteGood job everything that you said makes sense
DeleteI completely agree with you, what you are saying makes complete sense, good job jer.
DeleteYes people do tend to blame others because no one wants to be the one getting in trouble. Another thing is that no one wants to deal with the consequences so they blame others so they have to deal with it even though they should own up to what they did and be mature about it and deal with it.
ReplyDeleteThere is a good chance that that sort of lottery could end up being a thing in some communities. For example people with political power and or are famous tend to want to blame others for things that they did because they don't want to deal with anything and they don't want to be thought of a bad person or loose there popularity, and blaming someone else is the easiest thing they can do so they do it. I'm sure if u were to ask them they would say no to wanting to have a lottery like the one in the story but truthfully they most likely would love the idea of it.

ReplyDeletePeople blame others because they always want to be the right one. So instead of taking the fault you blame someone else. It is not us kids fault it is how we see things in world and we adapt to it if you know it or not. So people need to be more aware of adaptation we are taking because they are not always the ones we want. For example I been blaming other in this blog Instead of taking the blame.
ReplyDeleteVery insightful summary of blaming others, talking about peoples egos and the way we have been raised
DeleteFine work, fine work indeed.
very good points and I agree but not all kids see things and blame others , some people just choose to be that way.
DeleteMany people blame others because they don't want to be part of the consequences. It very natural to us because we adapt to it. If you got away the first time and blame on someone else, you 'll feel lucky and u will do it again. Every kids like to blame others because it's what satisfied us. So I say that blaming other is OK and very natural. "The Lottery" on the other had, is not natural. If we did this, all of the people in our community will have a criminal record because of murdering someone who did nothing bad to anyone. Stoning someone is painful and killing someone just for some corns to go is not right. People might have did this in the past but not now because we are smarter than the past and we know what is injustice and justice. So this "lottery" should not be held anywhere in our community.
ReplyDeleteI forget to type in that blaming someone is also the easiest solutions because people likes to go down the easy path and that because they don;t want to discuss or deal with the problem.
ReplyDeleteyes I do think that people blame others for their mistakes in life because they don't want to deal with the consequences afterwards. For example everyone likes be to right and not wrong and when you blame someone else, it makes you look better. Also I dont think it would be a great idea if my community held a lottery like the one in the story because I dont think that anybody wants to be stoned to death.
ReplyDeleteDarina I agree with you 100%!Today in our community we would never do such a crazy thing.
DeleteI also agree that people often blame others hoping it would make them look better and feel better .
Deleteyes, I find that people tend to blame others for their problems; the ones who have a hard life especially. People blame others to stay out of trouble and to make other people think better of them. For example us children. Most of us have brothers and sisters and we know what that feels like, we blame one another to keep ourselves out of trouble when we do something that we know our parents will frown upon. Today in 2016 we think more logically then before, our community will never throw this kind of lottery. If we would ever throw this kind of event then the person who would win will actually win the money and not be stoned or killed to death. I personally don't think my community would ever plan this kind of event.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you because I have a younger sister and I can relate to this
DeleteWe'll always try to blame other for our problems since it takes a certain level of maturity to say "He had no part in this it was all me". But we shouldn't say only one person was responsible for the event if multiple were involved they should all share the blame. But Scapegoating is always a way of saving your reputation, as "I never did anything wrong, he did it" sounds nicer than" Yeah, it was my fault

DeleteAnd stoning is still sadly practiced around the world as a cruel and barbaric method of punishment. No we should not have stonings because no one asked for the right to be killed at random
DeleteI really like your ideas Ethan! You really expressed your feelings and I totally agree with you. It is a very severe punishament and I personally think it should stop.
DeleteI like the way you explained it, saying that its a way to save your reputation is creative and true. I'm actually kind of sad that I didn't write about it myself. So props to you.
DeleteOnly mature people will take the blame but most people who r faced with a situation were they did something bad and feel that if they admit what they've done they will get in trouble and blame someone else. But the problem with that is if you do get caught lying u will be in more trouble than u would of if u had been honest. If my town had a lottery I think it would be terrible in the way that people who did nothing wrong get to die , and also the whole town would be corrupted and most of the people would try to leave the town and then every thing would be corrupted and the town would be no more.
ReplyDeletegreat ideas matthew! i totally agree that only mature people will take the blame.
DeleteI do think people blame others. I think people do this because they do not want to be blamed or serve the consequences that they are going to be facing. In the story "The Lottery" there is a lot of people to blame because they are a community and they are all participated in this event. I do not think that this can happen in our community because we are smarter then that. In the midevil times they did this as a punishment but I think as a memeber of the community, I think we out grew that and became smarter people. It is a very sad thing that is sometimes practiced around the world in different countries. But I personally think that we are smarter and we don't have to face that severe consequence.
ReplyDeleteyeah i agree with you we are alot smarter and we shouldnt be giving someone a severe consequence if they arent the ones guilty
DeleteI completely agree with everything u wrote and you really did a good job expression your feelings.

ReplyDeletePersonally speaking I think that a lot of people definitely blame others for there mistakes. For many reasons like they don't want to get in trouble or they don't wanna have consequences for their actions.i am a human and i also blame stuff that i have done on other people which is not okay but it's a normal thing people do sometimes. I live in Pointe-Claire which to me is a nice neighborhood and personally i don't think that my community would ever be okay with doing the lottery and stoning people to death.Near where i live we have many families and a very child friendly neighborhood. I am sure my community would not be okay with doing this.
ReplyDeleteyes i do believe that others blame people because they sometimes don't want to get in trouble or have any complications, so therefore they blame others for their mistakes... i honestly don't think that a kind of lottery like that could take place in our community, because in these days they do not accept that kind of behaviour, while back then they did because everything was different and society was different (they didn't do things like we do it today and the people were as well just different people) compared to todays society. if we would stone someone to death today, in this society, the person would go to jail, because of different laws that we have that they didn't have before.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of very good points and I agree with all of them
DeleteYes, I think that people often blame others because no one would like to have responsibility or be punished for the problems they caused. I doubt that that type of lottery would happen in our community because now if some one for example robed a bank police officers and detectives would try to find out who did it and send them to jail, so if you stoned to death a random person you will not actually solve your problem because the person who did rob the bank will still be loose and probably never get in trouble for it. So now the laws have changed and became more logical, so overall that would probably not happen in our society today.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. You have some good points i like your examples and how you explained your thoughts.
DeletePeople often do blame others for their own guilt. For many different reasons, but mainly because they do not want to get in trouble for their actions. This type of lottery could happen in our society, just like anything could. Only because we seem to be okay with ourselves after we blame another for our issues. Though, stoning someone to death would not help the situation because the problems would still be there.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't agree with all of your points you expressed yourself very well and you made very valid arguments
Delete
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion i believe that people blame other people all the time. It is much easier to blame someone else than admit we made a mistake. People are afraid to admit that they are not perfect and don't like to take responsibility for their own actions.
I do not believe the lottery could take place in our community for many reasons. First we are a society ruled my laws imposed by government and inforced by police and a system of laws. Also I think we are smarter then they were and realize that it's inhuman and cruel to treat others like that
I really liked how you expressed your opinion. I agree with you 100% on all of it. I agree with what you said about our community and how we have laws etc.. that was very smart to point out!
DeleteIn some countries the system of laws is corrupt but you explained your points very well.
Deleteyes i do think others blame each other all the time i think its easier for people to do instead of taking the blame on there self. also i believe people are scared to have the responsibility and getting a consequence.
ReplyDeletei don't think this would happen in our community because i think we are smarter then that that to stone someone to death but i also think this would not be the right way to handle something like this
I do believe that people do blame others a lot on things they have done.People blame others so that they wouldn't take the consequences and the things that will come after the what they have done.Us too we do blame like our siblings for things that we've done on them.If a "lottery" like that were to happen in our community it would create problems in the community.
ReplyDeleteI agree a lot of people blame others and its bad. But its normal but if u consistently doing it, it gets worse for u because you feel bad.
DeleteSadly, yes I think people often blame others. For many reasons I think mainly because they don't want to deal with the consequences because either are too lazy/immature or just completely irresponsible. It's disappointing because it's not only kids or teenagers that are claimed to blame others but there are grown adults that also do it which is very bad. I also think that everyone lacks the very basic responsibility to take their consequences, blaming others only gets you into more trouble most of the time so there's no point in doing it.
ReplyDeleteNo i don't think this kind of lottery could take place in our community. Our community is much more responsible and i like to think ours is a lot more sane as well. To start off stoning someone to death is very much against the law. The people in our community our much more reasonable then blaming someone for wining the lottery. If this lottery did take place and someone won, we wouldn't stone them to death because we understand the possibility of them wining (which is normally very low) and we'd shrug it off and just think that they were lucky. It's also not in our nature to end someones life for getting lucky. There are many consequences for that in our society. We're very different we have rules and laws. Because of that we'd react very differently.
I agree, I think it's sad to see that adults blame others as well, when they are the ones who are supposed to be mature and good role models. If kids will almost always copy adults, so if the adults keep on doing this, so will the generations to come and it will be an endless cycle.
DeleteUnfortunately, I do think people blame others, quite often. It’s the sad reality. People do this because they want to take an easy path through life rather than face challenges , and become a better person. It’s too bad because I think if people were able to just accept what they’ve done, This world would have half as many problems. The people who do accept what they have done, and take that chance to make themselves a better person, are the ones who go farther in life and have the most experience.
ReplyDeleteHowever I do not think anything like the lottery in this short story would ever happen in our community anymore. Nowadays, each individual is responsible for themselves and what they have done, even though there are sometimes false accusations. I think this world has a lot of problems to fix…
Yes , I believe that people often blame others for their own mistakes . One reason people blame others is that it helps them feel less guilty about themselves and that they had no part in the situation that occurred. Another example is that people tend to blame others for their own bad behavior , stating that this person had forced them to act a specific way.
ReplyDeleteNo , I don't believe that this kind of lottery could take place in our community . One example is that people of this generation wouldn't risk their own lives and the lives of their loved ones. We are more sensitive and respectful to the lives of living things.
I think people blame others because they don't want to get in trouble. People blame others because they like it a lot like seeing people in trouble. I think this sort of lottery can't happen in our community because it's really bad. Its saying that one day in the year we kill someone there loved ones would have to kill them because it's à rule i don't think it's good.
ReplyDeleteI think that people blame others quite often because they dont want to get in trouble. They might not like doing it but they would rather see someone else (brother, sister, friend etc...) get in trouble than themselves
ReplyDeleteI dont think this kind of lotery would happen in our community because i dont think that our community is the type of community to stone someone to death and make it a ritual.
I do think people blame others often to get out of their problematic situation they got into. I think you would have to be perfect not to blame someone in your life because if you haven't blamed someone yet for your one of your problems you will sooner of later.
ReplyDeleteThe lottery of stoning someone to death nowadays will never happen in our communities because humans have became smarter in the advanced generation.
I personally believe that people will always try to place blame on other, its part of our society, but I think picking someone through a lottery and then killing them especially through the means of stoning is bad and that we would never go that far. Most people believe that killing is not the answer and would most likely vomit at the site of a murdered person. -Marcus
ReplyDeleteYes I think that people blame others, in fact most of the time that's the case, no one likes to take credit or responsibility for things that aren't s necessarily positive. Where if they were positive people would gladly take credit.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't think that the practice of this type of lottery would ever occur. As humans most of us would know wether this type of lottery is humane/cruel/unfair or not and I'm certain that the tradition of the lottery would never be adopted.
