Colin Kaepernick, a football quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, refuses to stand for the American National Anthem.  He feels that black people are being OPPRESSED!

Is racism still a problem today?

Is this quarterback right or wrong for not standing during the anthem?

Explain.

  2. Personally I think that racism is still in this world today. I think this quarterback had the right to sit down during the anthem. I do think it is disrespectful because he could've done it in another way possible. But that was his decision and I personally think he's making a stand. He cares about that race and wants to show it.

  3. Racism will always be a problem in our world because there is always someone who will hate on skin colors, religions etc. Colin Kaepernick has the right to sit down and speak out his opinion because America is a free country but in my opinion who should do it some other way. Sitting down during the anthem could be very insulting to people that's why I believe who should not be doing it this way to prove a point.

  4. I personally think racism will continue forever in this world , we will always have people criticizing our skin , religion etc.. I think Colin Kaepernick is half right and half wrong because it's true that America is a free country and he's allowed to express his feelings but on the other side it might be really offensive to others that he's sitting down during the anthem.

  5. i think that racism will always be a problem in our world. not everyone understands that its very wrong and some people take it as a joke so unfortunately there is still racism and i think there will always be racism. I think Colin Kaepernick is right because he's standing up and against racism and he feels confident to do it, which is good. He is allowed to express his feelings for whats right and whats wrong to him. i think he has a right to express the way he feels and to do whats right for himself.

  6. Racism will always be a problem until we humans know how to create use world peace. Judging a person by his or her skin or culture is not right. But this world is not perfect and it will always have mistakes being made. We can stop this little by little like Colin Kaepernick, standing and protesting for equal rights for all people, whether your black or white, small or big, we are always equals.

  7. I believe that there has always been racisme in the the world and that there still is today. I also believe that there always will be rasicme in the world no matter what (sadly). People will always be judgeed by the color of their skin. I think Kaepernick did the right thing to not stand for the national athée because he is supporting black people and its good that he feels that blacks argent terrasse as equally as whites.

  8. Today in 2016 there is still racism that exist and I don't think racism will ever stop because there are cruel people out there. People don't Realize how important it is to be nice to one another . There are wars going on in this world because of hate of religions and racism . What Colin is doing for his (race)is amazing . He's supporting the black people because people today are still horrible and treat eachother terribly either for their skin color or their eye shape or their weight ! our world is an unfair place but we we should never give up on trying to make it right !
He is absolutely right to stand up for him and his (race) he is supporting the people from where he comes from and who he is and has become because of that !

  11. Racism is still a problem today and probably forever. Many people don't understand that it's wrong and no one will be able to change their minds. It is sadly, a way others think and it's most definitely wrong. No one should be judged by their physics. I believe that Colin Kaepernick has his reasons for sitting out during the anthem, but he can do so much more than just sit out for a couple of minutes. He can create a change! I don't believe what he's doing is wrong, he can express his opinion but maybe differently .

    1. Maria you are so right ! Yes he's trying to make a point but if he was really against this whole story then he should do something else ! He can gather a group of people who thinks the same way as him and he can prove something to the world other then just football

  12. There is a lot of racism in the world today with those cops last week who shot a guy name Scott and another guy name Keith. Racism is really bad but a lot of people cant trust people to this day still. Its bad how the blacks are treated like that because they are the same as us. Colin Kaepernick has a reason for going on one knee during the anthem because his people are getting killed but i think he should of stood up still because it would be nice for his country.

  13. There is a lot of racism still in this world and racism will probably live on forever because racism is a big part in our society. I agree with Collin Kaepernick`s decision to sit down during the national anthem because he`s expressing his opinion on our society and I think he should keep doing what he`s doing until someone come`s up with a solution to this problem.

  14. I think racism is still huge issue today in the world. I don't think that racism will ever stop because there are some people out there that criticize one other or make fun of their religious beliefs. I agree with the QB because there is still many black people out there that are getting arrested, shot or even killed for no reason at all. He is very brave to do such a thing.

  15. I personally think that of course racism still exist today in 2016. Even through evrything we have been through it's sadly to say that racism still is a issue in our world today. In my point of view I think it was good
of Colin Kaepernick to not sand up to the anthem. Because it wa his way of expressing himself and everyone is aloud to there opinion. I find it was a good idea because it shows younger people that it's okay to stand up for what you believe in and to express yourself in a non-violent way.

  16. Yes racism exists today and it always will, it will never disappear. It's everywhere it doesn't matter if it was meant to be an insult or just a joke or even accidental. There are very many different situations of racism but that doesn't make it anymore right or wrong. Racism isn't okay. I agree and disagree at the same time with Colin Kaepernick. I understand that he is trying to make a movement but for there to be respect towards the black there must be respect towards the white, it goes both ways. So I think if he wants to make a movement, a statement or even if he just wants to bring it to people's attention, he should be doing it a respectful manner. Many white people may be taking offence to the way this man is acting. People should start understanding both sides of the story before they start pointing fingers at others.

  17. Yes, racism is still problem today and I think it is always going to be, its extremely sad there is no reason do judge people and treat people horribly just because they have a different skin color, religion, culture, gender, etc. I think that he was right to do that because he is standing up for what he believes in and it’s a smart but a disrespectful way to show America but he must be willing to take a chance because a lot of people will not really like him after this. If he feels it’s the right thing to do than I don’t see much harm in him doing it, and he does have a point because its supposed to be a free country but some people, especially cops are treating black people worse than they do to others.

  18. Yes, I believe racism is still a terrible problem today. I think we have made progress in some areas but we obviously have a long way to go. Police need better training, that is big part of the problem. Nobody should be judged because they are a different color, race, or religion in the end we are all equal and should be treated equally. I do agree with what Colin Kaepernick is doing. He is expressing his opinion and doing what he believes is the right thing. There are people who do not agree with him and that is ok too because they are also entitled to have their own opinions as well.

  19. in every society their is racism. And I believe that racism will always be a problem because people always judge people that don't look normal to them. I believe that him not standing for the national anthem wont change racism and yes I can see how he wants to prove a point and that racism now has been very bad for blacks and he wants to show that he doesn't want to live somewhere that's hypocritical and say that everyone is free when in reality its not , so I think he is right and wrong for not standing because it is still his country and he should respect that.

  20. As many of us know and honestly it would be extremely ignorant to argue against this statement but , racism is still prevalent in today's society rather we like it or not...
Racism is a problem for one reason and one reason only in my mind , even now in 2016 people are too ignorant to accept the fact that throngs like the color of our skin or the language we speak doesn't make us sky less of a human being. I say this because everyone is equal no matter the race or where they are from. I know this for a fact cuz if not then natural selection would have killed them off by now to be frank.

  21. Yes there is still racism that exists, a very good example that everyone knows about is Donald Trump. Yes he is only one person, but i'm pretty sure that most of the people that agree with him are racist. There are lots of other examples like the conflict going on with the American police officers. It is good to say that the racism has gone down a good amount but sadly still stays. What Colin Kaepernick did is understandable because he is standing up for what he thinks is rite and what is rite but not standing up for the national anthem is a pretty big deal especially for Americans because they tend to be a lot more expressive when it comes to stuff like that. That's why they tend to have American flags out in front of there houses ect. People may or may not agree with what he did but he has the rite to do so, especially if it's the land of the free.

  22. Yes racism is still a problem today and I think it will always be. I believe that there is no reason to judge a person only because of their skin color, religion or beliefs. I think that quarterback was right about what he did because you are free in this world so you can believe what you want and if people don't like it bad for them but you can't stand people treating you like that. But I also think he was wrong because if he lives in America and he is in an American sport team I think he should have stand for his national anthem.

  23. I believe that what he did is understandable, yet I think he is getting to much attention for it. You see their are two people in this world, the ones that see the negative and the one that see the positive. I think in the end the other famous sport player who gave up his job in order to fight in the army has a better mindset, he decided to fight for everyone instead of solely just one group of people. -Marcus B.

  24. I think what the foot ball player did was right because if his contrie is not the way he wants it to be and has not for decades that and there is no change so the way he is getting attention is right.

  25. The quarterback is right for taking a knee cause black people deserve to be treated like everyone else they are just like us and this has been still going on from a while ago and it's still going on so it needs to stop. Everyone should be treated equally
