In the short story "Harrison Bergeron," Harrison breaks the rules of society.

Are rules created to be broken?

Have you ever broken the rules?

Did you get in trouble for that?

Explain.

  1. For me when I was younger I loved breaking the rules and to this day I still think every rule is created to be broken. As a young kid breaking the rules was the funnest thing ever I think I was the pro at breaking rules. I use daily to get in big trouble But as you get older you realize you have to respect the rules that you are given.

  2. When i was younger i broke ALOT of rules. Most of the time i didnt really get in trouble for it except if it was for like dress code at school or not doing my homework or something. I think rules are created to be followed and respected.

  3. Rules are not created to be broken there meant to guide us in the right direction so basically to help us but a lot of times we break them any way mostly if we don’t agree with them or don’t think or care about them. I have broken the rules a lot of times especially when I was young and not as much now but when I did I would get in trouble most of the time unless I was good at hiding it.

  4. Rules are generally not made to be brocken. They are there for help to us and personally I feel that we should always respect them. But sometimes rules have to be brocken. Or you break a rule by accient. I have brocken multiple rules in my life and I didn't really get into trouble, only sometimes I would get caught, especially when I was young. I don't really break the rules now. I've learned my lesson.

  5. If you really think about it ; if we didint have any rules our world would be corrupted and people would do things that are frowned upon.
Rules are made to set limits in our every day lives. I know that some rules can be annoying or hard to follow but we obviously ignore them and break them at lest once in our lives.
For example, I've broken the rules more then once but it's life as long as I don't break the same rules multiple times then it's not really that bad . There can be school rules or parent rules and even society and law rules but it's life and it can be hard sometimes and we might want to break them just to prove a point but without rules this world would be millions and billions times worse then it already is .
I've gotten in trouble several times for breaking the rules but at the end of the day I've learned my lesson and I would "try"not doing it again .

    2. That's very true, without rules many bad things could happen.

  6. I believe that rules are made to broken because when you lay some rules down eventually someone will break them and might get away with it. When i was young i would break the rules just for the fun of it but as i got older i thought about the consequences that will come after what I have done. Now i try my best not to break any rules or to not break as many as i use too.

  7. I feel that rules are there for a reason but some rules are just plain silly like those can be broken. the only way i break rules are when i know i can actually do what the rule saiys not to do. but sometimes you should nnot break the rules because there are consequences

  8. Rules are created to be broken. I know that because most rules have been broken. I've broken some rules when I was young, nothing big though. I was afraid of the consequences ,I was afraid to be caught. But I know when I did get in trouble my parents would take my phone away or leave me in a room for an hour and do nothing but stare at the wall. But , their is a lot of people who break rules all the time. And they pay the price for their mistakes.

  9. I think rules are not created to be broken but there are always some people that break them and get in trouble for it. Rules are created because without them the world would be in completely caos, everyone would do whatever they want and people would finish killing each other. When I was younger I used to find funny breaking rules and I broke someones not very big but I finished not wanting to break them because I always got in trouble.

  10. Rules are made to be broken and followed. There are times were rules can be broken, but rules can save us if we follow it. When I was young, I broke many rules because the rules were stuff I don't want to do so I broke them. I was young so I didn't understand why we have rules but I learn why we have it when I grew more mature. I still break rules by accident and pay the consequences. Sometimes I was sent to the principal's office because I broke too many rules.

  11. You can do whatever you want but whether or not there are consequences for what you do is completely up to you and the rules you decide to follow. Rules will always be there, there are not going to disappear, you can either chose to follow them or break them. I find rules has a lot to do with responsibility and maturity. I don't follow the rules when I want to have fun or decide to do what I want (which is a very bad thing) but at serious times when I am required to be mature, I will do so. Following the rules can be good because you may be rewarded but people also don't notice that you are following the rules, no matter how hard you try. Maybe if teenagers were rewarded for good behaviour less rules would be broken.

  13. I don't think rules were made to be broken, but I mean, no one would have fun if they didn't break the rules. I think it's ok to break the rules if you are not disturbing or affecting anybody else. I have definitely broken rules and I have been caught some of the times. However, I didn't go overboard and break the rule completely. I guess you can say I slightly break the rules... Most of the time. I think everyone has broken rules in their life, whether they meant to break them or they did it by accident. It's hard to have fun if you strictly follow every rule in the book.

  14. I believe rules were not made to be broken but should be broken anyway, for example if it is illegal to trespass in a certain area but someone needs immediate help/aid in that area I feel people should disregard the rules. I've broken rules before, too many to count and the only time I can remember braking the rules was when would play in the staircases of a congregation I used to go to when I wasn't supposed to and I did get in trouble for it, it wasn't any serious trouble though.

  15. Rules are created for your safety and well being. They are put in place for a reason. Yes i have broken important rules before and yes i have gotten in a lot of trouble for them. When you break rules that are put in place for a reason, There is a consequence because they need to be respected.

  16. Rules are made to be broken, at least when your a kid or a teen. Breaking rules is fun and is something everyone does. I myself have broken rules and still do. Yes it's fun and all but when you get caught or you get in trouble for them, then it isn't fun anymore. When you get older you come to understand that rules are made and created for your well being and as a way for you to stay safe and you learn to respect that. As kids or teens we don't listen because we don't to worry about all that stuff that you have to do when your older, your pretty much care free so it's fun to go out and be a rule breaker and to live a little.

  17. In my opinion I think that rules are made to be broken because breaking rules or fun and a lot of people do it. You need to be a savage and break some rules because you only live once. I understand that rules are rules but it's okay to break some of them. I have broken some rules before and I did get in trouble because I did something that I shouldn't have.

  18. In my opinion rules are not made to be broken because what's the point of rules if they are made to be broken. I've broken rules like everybody else, I believe that everybody who took a step on this planet over the age of like 1 has broken a rule. I've broken rules that I didn't get in trouble for because they were minor but I have got in trouble for braking rules that were more severe.

  19. honestly rules were made so than people can be safe but other rules are just plain stupid. usually it depends on the rule but they shouldn't be broken. i remember one time i left class to go to the bathroom and i went to visit a teacher instead i mean its not like i was doing drugs or anything. i didn't get in big trouble my teacher just got mad at me for taking so long.

    2. I believe you are in the wrong here, when a teacher gives you the right to use the bathroom they are trusting you to go there and come back, when you don't and you visit a class you break that trust. That's why certain teachers don't let kids use the washroom, because kids are not trust worthy, its why kids can not bring bags into grocery stores and we cant go out alone and so on and so on. Its a image that has been made that all children even ones that respect there rules get affected by.

  20. Rules are made for people to be safe and respect them not break them. Like time to time people have to break the rules if its a bad or stupid rule. I have broke a rule once in grade 4 i took a permanent mark and drawing all over the bathroom doors and saying things that weren't but i was dumb i didn't know what i was doing but i got in trouble so badly i got sent home.

  21. I don't think rules are made to be broken. There mostly made so the place is in control.I have broken many rules in my life. For example swearing, running in the halls, skipping detentions etc...Of course i got in trouble for doing this.I got suspended, detentions.

  22. When people create rules, they expect them not to be broken but eventually people do brake them. When you are younger, when someone told u not to do that ,u still did it because you thought it was cool. But as u get older u can't really get away with breaking the rules because if u get caught, there are serious consequences. Sometimes detentions.Sometimes suspensions. But the worst is getting expelled. I've gotten many detentions since sec 1 but ive never gotten a suspicion or worst of all an expulsion.

  23. Yes, I totally agree that rules are made to be broken. Obviously important rules that keep people safe should not be broken but less serious ones like staying up late or watching shows that are not appropriate are not going to hurt anyone. Yes I have broken rules before and gotten in trouble for them but never really anything serious.

  24. I think rules were created to not be broken because if everybody broke the rules , what would be the point of rules. Of course I have broken the rules like who doesn't? BUT I never break rules that are there to keep you safe or to not get you in a lot of trouble but like staying up to late or doing something a little bad is not to terrible. When I do something bad I don't get into to much trouble its mostly just a conversation telling my parents that I wont do it again.

  25. When I was younger I never really broken many rules of course I'm sure I've broken a few as normal but overall I used to follow the rules. I personally think rules are there to be respected and followed. There are gonna be people who break them but rules are meant to be followed. Rules are basiclly for people to follow and for there to be no issues and for everything to be under control.

  26. i think that some rules are there to be respected and to be broken because if you don't ever break any rules than you will have no experiences in life. you want to live life to the fullest and have some fun. if u always respect every rule you come across you are going to see that you will have no stories to tell your kids ,you won't be able to say ''trust me kids i have done that and it wasn't a good choice'' you won't know what to say cause you have never done it. i have broken some rules in my life and some rules where more serious than others and i got in trouble for a few. but now i know its wrong i have experienced it and the punishment that comes along with it.

  27. I believe rules are made all the time, but only a few should be followed, the important rules. The rules that keep everyone in line and make sure everyone has there rights. When I was a kid and even now I have and still break rules, yet they are small ones. For instance "Go to bed early" or "Don't climb this", I have been punished but not harshly.

  28. Rules are meant to be broken... this is one of the things that people say the most often when someone brings up rules.
Obviously rules aren't meant to be broke nor to test the exceptional, as much as everyone says/thinks these things yet everyone knows that they aren't true.
The reason that rules are meant to limit people, sometimes for safety and sometimes people aren't really sure why.
