Blog 36 - Monday, February 20, 2017

There will only be ONE (1) blog this week! No school Friday.

Over the weekend, my family and I went up north (Ste. Agathe).
We went sledding, did some walking and watched some old DVD videos on an old TV.
We also played some board games (scrabble and monopoly).
It was a bit annoying since we had no internet or Wi-Fi for the entire weekend.

Would you be able to keep yourself busy for an entire weekend with no internet or Wi-Fi?
What would you do?
How dependent are you on being connected?

Explain.

  1. Today in 2017 Our society is very dependent over the wifi and the internet. In the Jewish culture we have a Benefit to detach from the internet and just take a break to relax for a whole 26 and sometimes even 27 hours in some cases. This is called "Shabbat" it starts on Friday night as soon as soon as the sun sets until the next day on Saturday when the sky is dark and you are able to see three stars. During this time we are lucky enough to detach from social media and the internet and spend some real quality family time even if ; some of us hate it we need to celebrate it as passionate Jew's. This small "weekend" Allows us to listen and interact with our loved ones and it releases our stress. It's also a good thing because we're being less effected to the bad radiations that come out of our phones and iPads and such.
I've been doing this from the first day of my existence on this earth on every Friday to Saturday nights.
I also normally go to sleep away camp during the summer called ycc and it's meant to be around your friends and to have fun without being impacted by our phones. Every time I go there I create the best most memorable memories because I'm acctually part of the interaction. Back at home I am part of many memories but even less since I'm always tempted to be on my phone.
I'm sure I would be able to have fun and keep myself occupied without any wifi for a full weekend since I've already done it and even longer then just one weekend.

  3. It would be extremely difficult for me to get off my phone for an entire weekend and that is because I am so attached to it . But I believe that I would be able to with the right distractions . Such as having good (not boring) friends that would willingly want to do stuff together for around 48 hours . I also will need to be moving , not just sitting down and watching movies all day and eating junk food ( even if that is REALLY fun) , I would check my phone way to often since I would get bored at some points . Maybe if I went to different places such as Downtown , fancy restaurants , a shopping mall or a party (etc...) . When I was younger I was able to not go on my IPod for an entire month, I would play with my little sister and forget about my app games . So yes , I would be able to not go on my phone for over 48 hours . Why? Because I'm not that dependent on my iPhone , id rather interact with my friends instead of listening to music and id also prefer talking to a friend instead of texting them .

  4. I feel I would have a little difficulty without Wi-Fi for an entire weekend because I am so used to having it around me all the time. But at the same time. I am an outdoors person. I love nature and playing outside with friends or to just get a nice fresh air. I love winter, especially to play hockey outdoors. That is my favourite activity to do in the winter. So if I would go on a vacation like that, I would pray that there's a rink nearby. And if there's not. It would be fun to enjoy the weekend with my family.

  5. I can diffidently spend an entire weekend without wifi and I think everyone in this world is able too. It will probably be a bit difficult but if your not able to spend 48 hours with no wifi theirs something wrong with you and your anti social. I would just play outside if I had no wifi. I would say I'm pretty dependent on being connected.

  6. Yes I can stay a whole weekend without wifi, ive done it a lot before. What I would do Is , tell funny and interesting stories with my family, play a lot of board games like monopoly, scategories and more, also we would go for some nice walks, sled, skate, drink hot chocolate and more. I am very close with my phone but I would be able to do this because I don't depend on my phone that much, I use my phone to keep my self entertained, chat with friends and have a good laugh, but if im out with my family I have all the entertainment I need that I wont really miss my phone that much.

  7. I'm not saying it would be easy but i now I'd be able to last up to a week under a few condition. First condition; I can be with who'm ever i would like to be with during this time period (not always the same people). Second condition; We can choose where we are, if I/we had to stay in the same place then i would choose a cottage of sorts because they tend to be big enough for many people and they are cozy.Third and final condition; We may do whatever we please to do to keep ourselves busy.

  8. I actually really enjoy being without wifi. Over the summer I went to camp and didnt bring my phone with me. I had so much fun and it felt so good to not be concerned about what is going on, on the internet. My phone is something that im on alot but i do not depend on it, like if my mom takes my phone away i dont really care and i find things to do. I would find something to do, i mean you can go outside and adventure around or play board games, actually hold real conversations with people.

  9. Honestly, I think it would be so difficult going like two days without WiFi. Technology is such a big part of me. I love to play games and it's also a habit to randomly go on my phone for no reason. I would be able to survive a weekend without technology because I have an outgoing family so we are always doing stuff. It would definitely be hard on the third day. But that's the thing these days everyone is stuck to there phones so there is no communication. I'm lucky because I have a family that can control themselves and I have rules to follow about my gaming time which is always nice.

  10. I definitely think I would be able to go a whole weekend without Wi-Fi. I used to play outside all weekend with my neighbors and sister and that’s what I would do. I would go outside and have fun with them and if it was too cold I would probably watch a movie with my family or invite my neighbors into my house so we could talk. In the summer I’m always outside so a weekend with no internet wouldn’t be that difficult. I’m not really dependent on being connected because there is tones of things I can do without it, yes I do love watching YouTube but I don’t really care about it that much. I never really use the internet for homework but if I needed it for homework I could easily just ask my family. Also I think it would be better for me to do my homework without Wi-Fi because if I had it I would distract myself from doing work.

  11. Honestly I like to think I am good with not being on my phone every awakening hour. But I could also go a while without it and I am very capable of managing on my own although time spent away from my phone I usually tend to do things with friends because in my opinion you can entertain yourself so much easier if you had your friends. Besides when I am on my phone I am talking with friends so it'd practically be the same thing except better because I would be with them in person.

  12. I did not have internet for several week, so yes, I can survival a weekend without internet. The thing is, I am bored easily, so I need something entertain me from the internet. My parents are happy to help. They bring me to watch a movie at the movie theaters or sometime bring to the swimming pool to swim. I also can read a book in my room. Sometimes, my family play a board game like Monopoly or The Game of Life. I'm not really dependent on the internet. I use the internet for entertainment. So that means I can entertain without the internet but the problem is finding something to entertain me without using the internet.

  13. I feel like I could easily go without wifi for a whole weekend because all I need to keep myself entertained is a pencil, an eraser and paper. I could just write and read books all weekend. I am actually pretty dependant with staying connected but I could definitely go without it.

  14. When i go up to my cottage i never use my phone except if it is for games and mostly music. I usually spend time with my family and watch movies with them or cook something with them. Its not even that bad to be honest i love being with my family on my dads side. I find it interesting not to have wifi there or to not be able to use my phone because i actually pay attention to things i do not really notice because I'm always looking down at my phone.

  15. Going an entire weekend without wifi is easy, i'm not dependent on it at all. Going without wifi isn't the end of the world, sure it's always fun to have wifi but you could lots of other fun activities outdoors and with your family. If I had to go up north for a weekend without wifi, i'd just go skiing, sledding and hopefully if there's an outdoor rink i'd go and play me some outdoor hockey. Another thing i'd do would be to play board games or card games with my family, or sleep because sleep is just the best.

  16. This weekend I am going to Ottawa with my swim team and I probs won't have wifi because it is a pretty bad hotel. I actually don't think it will be a problem because I will be swimming and hanging out with friends. We are even going to a museum, so when you have so much to do I don't think you really need wifi. When I was younger we used to go camping alot and we didn't have tv, internet or electricity and it was fine. Sometimes it is good to unplug your brain and enjoy friends and family.

  17. Every summer, I spend the holidays at my grandparents summer house where there is no wifi and we only use the internet when we go to a place with free wifi, so yes, I could definitely be without internet for a weekend. It depends on where I am and with who I am. Sometimes I am having such a good time, I forget that my phone exists but some other times I am so bored, all I can think about is picking up my phone. If I had to be a weekend without internet, I would just hang out with my friends and find something to do with our time without internet. I really like using my phone but I think and that I could leave it whenever I want to.

  18. Going without wifi for an entire weekend isn't even that bad to be honest because you can go out and do things you like or try new things. I could go out with my friends or family or you can go out to do whatever you want. No one needs to go on their phones everyday it's good to go out and do something.

  19. i would find it hard to not have internet or wifi but i also thinks it would be a fun experiment because if i was with my friends i don't think i would have a problem but with my family i would find i might get a little bored but it's good to go out and get some air and disconnect from the internet world for a bit

  20. For me I would find it hard but if I was doing sports for the whole weekend it wouldn't be bad because I would be doing my favourite thing sports. Like our world now needs wifi for research and to find funny videos to make us laugh with out wifi our world would suck it would be like the 80s without any wifi we would I have to go on the street and find something funny to look at. I would never last a week without wifi. And that's going to happen to me this march break on my cruise like I am going to try to get wifi maybe get wifi from people but that won't happen.

  21. i dont think that i would be able to last without the internet for a entire week. i am a very active person i play sports and do outdoor activities but a week without wifi would be pretty hard for me. i think that our generation now needs the internet to live. we have so many things we would be missing out on without the internet and all teens would die without the internet

  22. i would totally be able to go a weekend without internet. during the winter break Sophie invited me to her cottage up in saint-Adele with her grandparents. we had so much fun together and we didn't use any internet. we played outside for hours and we had so much fun. we went sledding, snow shoeing and pushed each other off of hills. we watched a whole bunch of movies and talked till midnight. we didn't need internet to have fun all we needed was each other and a lot of hot chocolate. i do think i'm dependent on internet because i use it everyday to contact my friends or watch netflix.
