Blog 45 - Monday, April 3, 2017

There will only be ONE (1) blog this week!

Last week, two girls were about to get onto a United flight from Denver to Minnesota.
The girls were friends of an employee for the company!

They were REFUSED at the gate because of their LEGGINGS!
United Airlines felt that they did not represent their company properly!

How do you feel about a DRESS CODE?
Should the airline refuse their boarding?
Should St. Thomas adopt a dress code policy?

Explain.

  1. Personally I don't like how there are dress codes. I find that they are very useless. I don't think the airline should've refused the two girls because they weren't doing anything wrong. All they were wearing was leggings. I don't know for a fact but I do not think these two girls were boarding with any cleavage or anything like that. They were simply just wearing leggings, minding their own business. I do not think St. Thomas should have a dress code policy. But I am saying this at a certain extant. The one dress code I hate at St. Thomas is the "no ripped jeans" policy. I feel that is simply a stupid and useless rule. People who wear ripped jeans aren't showing anything other than their legs. I don't know why teachers (Mr. Alali) has such a strict rule about this.

  3. Personally I don't really like dress codes. I don't think the two girls should have been refused to get on the plane for simply wearing leggings. But I do understand where there coming from. For example at school i do not agree with all there dress code rules but I can see where there coming from they just want to keep the school under control. They can't be having people wearing whatever they want, there has to be a limit. But as I student I think the dress code should be switched up a bit.

  4. I honestly understand why at school or other places their is a dress code . Some teenagers do dress a little inappropriate but in other cases some clothing pieces that are banned are completely dumb . For example , at St Thomas we cannot have ripped jeans even if it is a tear on the knee . It's dumb and I don't believe it's considered inappropriate . But I find it hilarious that they wouldn't allow two teenagers wearing clothing that covers themselves on a plane . Like they are leggings ! Everyone at st Thomas wears them and they are most definitely not inappropriate. The airline shouldn't have refused their boarding but instead let them on the plane without a complaint .

  5. I find stopping some people at the gate because they weren't dress properly is so stupid they weren't working so why stop them i find that stupid. I think the airline should let them on your allowed to dress how you want it's not there company it's those girls choice. I think st-Thomas shouldn't get a dress code i think teens should come to school with clothing they want not someone making them wear clothing they don't want. I know teens should not wear inappropriate clothes but let them wear what they want it's there choice.

  6. I honestly don't find that dress codes are very necessary in school but at work they are. In school or in public you should feel comfortable and confident enough to wear what ever makes you feel amazing. One of the only things that can represent who you are is your personality and what you wear. The clothing you decide to have in your closet is the clothing you decide to let people see the kind of person you really are. I personally hate how people judge one another just on their style. If someone wants to have pink hair and ripped clothes then you should let them. It isn't you who is wearing it and it isn't you who is deciding to wear it, so what makes you think you can judge. The people who go through day by day because their getting made fun of based on what they wear is totally disrespectful. Everyone is diffent and no one is perfect. If you chose to be that way then let it be.
Going to work is different; I understand what I just said but now you're working for someone or yourself and for a company. You need to look respresentable in order for the clients want to work with you. Outside of work you can wear and do whatever you feel but as soon as it's Monday get ready to look successful and proper. St. Thomas already has their dress codes. Girls aren't aloud wearing certain clothes and so can't guys. I don't find it fair because the school tells us to be us and happy but yet their taking one of the most important things from us and it's our style. Our clothes our makeup our hair our shoes everything that we chose to wear is what makes us confident and the school is taking away the one thing that makes it easier for us to leave the house in the morning.
I find that we should be able to say or do or wear whatever makes us feel like we are on top of the world. The airline should not have refused their boarding, they just wanted to feel like they were free to wear whatever they wanted.

  7. that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. they are grown woman they should be able to wear whatever they want. I'm outraged. at St-Thomas they take the dress code way too seriously I don't understand why they restrict people from expressing themselves. when I cant wear something because of a dress code I feel like I'm trapped in a box and cant escape. everyone should express themselves how they want not for anyone else. the school always says that they want everyone to be happy but they want everyone to stay in a box. I love wearing ripped jeans but I cant because supposedly they are inappropriate which is total bullshit. I vote that the woman should have never been stopped at the gate because of their clothing.

    2. I believe your mentality of the St.Thomas dress code is pretty harsh, its not like you are forced to wear a single type of shirt and pants everyday. All the St.Thomas dress code prohibits are cloths that are skimpy and not proper for a school.

  8. To be honest dress codes can get annoying sometimes. Those 2 girls knew that the company had a dress code and they didn't follow it so to bad for them. Their getting free flights that cost a good amount of money so I mean I don't feel bad for them. Airlines have every right and if you don't like it switch airlines. St-Thomas does have a dress code but theirs one idiotic teacher who applies it. One little rip in your clothe he gets nutty.

  9. Honestly dress codes are mad annoying because of the people who take it very serious. The airline should feel really stupid for not letting the girls board just cause of the leggings they are wearing like they should mind their own damn business and move on with life.St Thomas has a dress code but no one really follows it and most teachers don't give two s**ts but only one teacher has to care because he probably has nothing to do.

  10. Honestly I don't like dress codes like they are so stupid and pointless and in a way sexist because at St Thomas girls can't show their shoulders or wear spaghetti straps because its "distracting". It doesn't make any sense. How is our shoulders so attractive. But yeah it was really wrong of the United Airlines so not let the two girls on the flight because they were wearing leggings. They didn't do anything wrong.

  11. The girls were not kicked off because they were random girls wearing leggings they were flying for free and represented the company. So I kind of agree with United. I agree with dress codes and think that people should obey them. I went to a private elementary school and wore a uniform everyday and to be honest it was no big deal. It was easy to to find my clothes in the morning and it made fitting in easy for everyone. I think the dress code at St. Thomas is fine the way it is. It is not very strict it just shows that you respect yourself and other people.

    1. I don't really want a uniform, but I can see how it would be easier for everyone to fit in. Good point point.

  12. I'm neutral with dress codes , i would ban all types of inapropriate clothing for example if it has a bad word on a shirt , but not leggings , i also dont agree with wearing a uniform to school i find it stupid. I think the airline was in fault in this situation but it would be different if the girls were wearing really short skirts or a croptop but not leggings. I do not think ST.Thomas should get a dress code because it is good the way it is and there arent many problems with inappropriate clothes in school.

  13. I think dress code is stupid I think you can wear whatever you want to wear, maybe some things can be inappropriate but you shouldn’t have to worry about what to wear because you can get in trouble. Airlines shouldn’t refuse people based on what they wear especially leggings, it’s so dumb people should be allowed to dress how they want. It’s awful that people have to get punished for wearing what they desire. St Thomas should really change the dress code policies because they are really unnecessary and to strict, you can hardly wear anything that you want because you are showing too much. In my opinion more than half of the dress code rules are ridiculous and they should remove them.

  14. AHHH ok so dress codes are the by far dumbest thing i have ever heard of. like we should be able to wear whatever we want when we want. this airline doesn't know what they are doing because they should of let those girls on the plane. i dont really care about the school dress codes i wear whatver i want anyways so. the school should remove them because they dont realize that the message they are sending out is boys are that immature and "pigs" that they cant control themsleves around our shoulders or stomachs i mean evryone has shoulders and stomachs so i dont get the big deal.

  15. I think dress codes are stupid and people should be free to wear whatever they want. I think they should have let those girls in the plane, they shouldn't have stopped them because they were wearing leggings. It's an stupid dress code and I think it doesn't make any sense. People are going to want to be comfortable and relaxed and I think leggings are the most comfortable clothes to wear if you are travelling by plane. I honestly think that it makes more sense to put a dress code in a school than in an airline but I still don't like the idea. I want to be able to wear shorts in the summer or ripped jeans. I think it's unfair that we can't wear those clothes. It's really stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think that that is pretty stupid in my opinion. You can't stop people or limit the things they do because of what they are wearing that's ridiculous. I think having the freedom of wearing whatever you like so long as it isn't inappropriate or rude it's completely fine bringing me to the point about our school having a dress code. Having the freedom to wear what you like is also having the freedom to express yourself which is an important thing.

  17. I understand the idea and the reason for a dress code, but I think this may have been a bit overboard. I think people should be able to wear what they want unless they are going to a special occasion where you have to dress nicely. I'm not that familiar with this incident, but from what I read above it sounds like they were just wearing regular leggings, which practically everyone wears. I think the st Thomas dress code is ok, as it is, There just needs to be one adjustment, I think we should be able to wear ripped jeans. I don't see what harm a small rip on the knee can do. I understand if there is a rip on your butt or something, but I find it ridiculous that you have to change because there is a little slit in ur jeans and you can see your knee.

  18. To a certain extent I agree with dress clothes, for ex; obviously you can't wear only a bra and short shorts at school. But to be not aloud on a plane because of leggings... That's just dumb in every sense of the word

  19. I understand having a dress code for businesses, schools and the like but not letting two people onto a FLIGHT because of their attire is pretty silly. By not allowing them onto the flight they have essentially ruined the two girls vacation and they did it over a pair of pants. Now this doesn't mean I think St.Thomas should not have a dress code, I personally agree with the dress code that St.T already has.

  20. I dont think the girls should have been stopped at the airport. They paid for their tickets they should be able to board the plane. Leggings cant really conceal anything that could be used as a weapon so I dont see a reason to stop them solely for their leggings. The dress code at st thomas is acceptable since is a school and there should be like a guideline on what to wear but not a strict rule

  21. I think that everyone is aloud to dress how the want to a certain limit. You can't be walking around with a shirt that goes so low on your chest because that just makes you look low class. I have no problem though with riped jeans. The only problem I have with the Dress policy at st thomas is that riped jeans aren't aloud.
