Things you want future teachers to know.

How have past teachers made school more enjoyable for you? Was there a project you really liked? Something they did in the classroom that you enjoyed? If not something you liked, what is something that all teachers should avoid doing?

Explain.

  1. By having patience for example forgetting some material not getting mad and giving the student to fix his/her mistake. Making assignments that is relevant and enjoyable to do like blogs. And giving a reasonable time to do work like for example not giving a project due the next day that usually would take a week or two. Last year in math class the IB kids in my class had to make a business and the immersion kids did not have to do it but I did it anyways i bought gaming mice to sell it felt good to because the profit went to haiti. I like how in sec 1 we got to use chromebooks I really preferred it than using them than books. One thing teachers should avoid doing is using books when electronics are available there are here to make life a lot easier.

  2. I really liked all my teachers this year because they were all very nice and gave us some fun projects to do .I like English and french cause we get to do fun projects with partners and its fun. some teachers who are not my teachers are a pain because they always just pick on me and other people. I think teachers should avoid being so strick and giving so much homework and blogs... but other than that I liked all my teachers and classes this year.

  3. I like some of the activities that the teachers did. Some of the projects were fun too. For example, I had a project which was to make a replica of a landmark and it was surprisingly fun. That only that, we learned a lot from the project. I wish teachers can come up with projects that help us learn while being fun and interesting. I'm OK with homework, as long as the teachers don't overdo it like having a project and several homework due on the same day. This was an OK year. The teacher were OK and I wish to get even better.

    1. That is very interesting, I've heard of that project before but I never actually did it.

  5. Personally this year I had really good teachers. Except for few that I didn't like but like in general they were good. What I liked about this year in all the classes was that we did a lot more group projects and a lot more working together in groups. We had to do essays in several of classes but it didn't bother me because it's part of school, it was the same like last year and the year before that. I also found that the teachers were more interesting and the topics we learned we more enjoyable to learn about. Even if it wasn't the best year for me with grades and everything, I still had a lot of fun. I think the teachers did well this year with their strict level. There were a few ups and downs but they kept it real.

  6. Overall this year has been pretty good with teachers. I don't believe there are bad teachers, you just have to get to know them and let them get to know you. Saint Thomas would never hire bad teachers. I think that teachers should find ways to give you extra marks if you are struggling or failing a class so you can pass. The goal should be to pass everyone and fail nobody. One thing that bothers me is teachers who call out kids and embarrass them, that is not cool. If you know a kid doesn't know the answer or is shy, leave them alone, destroying their self esteem is just dumb.

  7. Throughout high school I was very lucky with some of the teachers I had, they've been sweet , generous and patient . But their are some teachers that are rude and hard on students . For example , a teacher I've had was very sarcastic and judgemental . This teacher would always say a rude comment to one of my classmates and has often rolled her eyes and yelled at some kids . She believed that since she had all the power in the classroom she can do whatever she pleases ,which is incorrect . But I've had some nice teachers that give a fair amount of homework , teach their lessons well and don't give attitude to anyone or yell. So in overall , a teacher shouldn't be mean and unfair but instead patient and kind .

  8. I personally don't like french class but in grade 4 and 6 I had an excellent teacher. Her name was Mme.Marie-Eve and she came back from parental leave half-way through my 4th grade year. She made class enjoyable for me, even though she didn't speak much English she was kind and spoke slowly so everyone could understand.

    1. She entered some students into a robotics competition in 6th grade, I was one of the students. It was very enjoyable figuring out haw to program the robots we had into performing a synchronized dance. We ended up losing because in the competition the students also had to dress up and perform which we didn't know.

  9. One of the best things to have in a teacher is when they take time to explain and help you understand things as much as possible at any time. I also enjoy teachers who try to make you laugh, make jokes so you don’t get too bored and the teachers who tell real stories to help you understand the subject better. My favorite projects are when you get to be creative with the subject and with that most students have different projects. However I dislike it when teachers call out on random students to answer a question when other students have their hand up because it’s kind of embarrassing. The worst is when the teachers overwhelm you with homework especially because you have other work in other classes too.

  10. School has been a very unique journey. It's had its up and down's. Certain teachers that I've had in the past were good but everyone has their one teacher that they'll always resent and hate on. The amount of times I've blamed them for not doing their job properly. I've been mostly right this entire time. I always thought I was the problem but it isn't; it's the teacher and the way they teach. I've never had a favourite project since I hate presentations. I liked how teachers would be accepting and understanding when we didn't feel well or when we had or have a problem and if you're not into the class then they won't force you to follow with the group. I love and maybe everyone else also loves it when the teachers know how to teach but they also know how to care for their student and not act like they have control over us. Teachers need to avoid being rough with the students. When kids walk into a class their already nervous as is; might be because of their grades or their friends but most of the time it's the teacher. They should also avoid giving to much work, because teachers don't understand that we have other subjects and other things to study for. As long as they know how to treat kids properly and then that's all that matters.

  11. Honestly every teacher is different and I guess they all have there own way of teaching. To be honest not every student will like the teacher but it depends on the student. I personally think a good teacher is someone who really cares about there students and want them to succeed. I like when teachers are understanding and make you feel like they understand whatever your going through. For example I hate presenting and rather than being a teacher that forces you to present I like teachers thag are understanding and they accept that I don't like to present and I get stressed. But overall they just have to be good at teaching and just a understanding person. Cause we are all humans and we all make mistakes.

  12. Honestly i don't really like any other teachers because they give too much homework. That is definitely the main thing they should avoid... Homework. I believe that when we get home our time should be to ourselves and most of us have sports and other activities so sometimes we don't all have that much time for homework.

  13. Honestly i don't like when the teachers are boring and they just stand in front of the class and do nothing like sometimes yes they can do that i get it, but sometimes i feel like you need to make class a little fun for students to enjoy school a little. i like projects that are in partners i find it more enjoyable and also you can get to know people. but still every class will get me stressed about exams teacher way i just need a teacher who will help

  14. Honestly some of my teachers are super nice and chill and I like them a lot and then there's others where I can not stand them. I enjoy coming to school most of the time. This year we had any projects to do but my favorite classes to do projects in are in English and French. Teachers shouldn't give a lot of homework and shouldn't stress out students before exams or a huge test.

  15. Personally i don't tend to act any different when its just the regular teacher or student teacher(s) but i'd say that overall they did help us as a class. They were not shy, they looked not nervous and they tried their best and did well.

  16. Teachers should not put any kids in summer school unless you can see they don't care and put no effort. Summer school is a waste of time and money. If I don't have to go to summer school I'm happy. I hate teachers that call out kids at the wrong moment, it bothers me a lot. I've had one good teachers so far in High school.

  17. some of my teachers are really nice and chill and I like how they teach. Some of them I don't like. I don't like doing projects but some of them this year i've enjoyed doing them.

  18. I've had some fun and chill teachers and at other times really bad teachers that were a real pain in the ass to deal with. I don't like school work or projects at all so pretty much all of the projects I've gotten this year I disliked but there were like 3 or 4 exceptions.

  19. I've always enjoyed all my teachers. They were all so kind and caring. I mean sometimes they could be mean but usually always nice!! One thing that would really annoy me is when teachers give homework while we have to study for a test or do a project for the same class. Like there's already work to be done and you just add so more. Something I like is when teachers let you work in group but you get to choose your partners

  20. I have had a lot of great teachers throughout my school years, although I have also had terrible mean teachers. One thing I like that teachers do is when they tell you all the homework that we will be having during the upcoming week. I like this because if you are busy one day but not the other, you can plan your schedule so that you can do all of the homework. I also love when teachers post the work and notes we did on classroom. If we were absent or simply missed something during class, there is no need to panic because it is posted. Now for the negative. I am not a fan of group projects that you have to work on outside of class, ESPECIALLY when you don't get to pick your partner.

  21. I've had teachers with different ways of teaching. Some teachers give homework every day and don't let you work in parters and some other teachers don't really give homework and we do more fun projects than tests. I really enjoy working in group when I get to choose my parters and I hate when teachers give too much homework. I think teachers should avoid that because you already work at school every morning and shouldn't have to do extra homework, maybe finish what you didn't finish in class and I think thats enough.

  22. I have had amazing teachers through all my school years but I had one teacher who was so mean that just the smallest thing got her mad. What I love about teachers is that they don't give so much homework and they give us a week to finish it. I also love when teachers post all homework on google classroom. And it's amazing it's all there everything test and homework.

  23. I think that all teachers have different values and beliefs. Some of them are more chill and don't bother you or take your phone away and others do take it away or are very strict with other things. I think teachers should avoid talking the whole class because it makes it very boring for the students and the students don't learn much, they should do more activities. I also believe that certain teachers should lay back bit and give the students a break. They don't know what goes on at home and they don't realize how they can affect the students at times.

  24. I only had 1 favorite teacher and it was in sec 1.He use to be so chill and cool.He let me play ball when there was class and he wrote me notes when i wasnt feeling well or lazy to go class.Thats bad but it was also a good thing

  25. Some teachers can be mean and won't tolerate any nonsense but then there are a lot of teachers who are really chill. My sec 2 history teacher was the best she gave easy marks for kids who where having a tough time in class so they can pass. One thing i really liked about her was we did yoga in class sometimes and it calmed down the class and for me it was easier to focus in class. One thing teachers should avoid is giving homewrok on the weekend.
